Bout of Books 11.0 Day 7: Challenges

Challenge #10: Post-Apocalyptic

I am participating in the 5 book challenge/Post-Apocalyptic Challenge over at Falling Down the Book Hole. The goal is to pick 5 books you would bring with you if aliens were invading. Here is the scenario:

"It is 11:00 PM on a Sunday night. You are laying in bed thinking about all of the things you must do the next day. Tasks of the coming days consume your thoughts and while your mind is somewhere else you are caught off guard by a flash in the sky that is followed by a large wailing screech that pierces the air and shatters your bedroom window. Slowly you move to the window and what you see catches your breathe and causes you to stumble back a few steps. The aliens (at least you think they are aliens) have began to enter the city and destroy everything that is in their path. Through the window your view is consumed with destruction, screaming people and large flames that are dancing across the city at a fast pace. You notice that the creatures are …

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 6: Reading Update

And the final day draws near. I've read as many books as their have been days in Bout of Books. I said I was going to binge read before school and I have done just that. Most of tomorrow will be dedicated to my final books, writing reviews, and my anxiety building up inside me. I've never been in an education class before. I'm freaking out because I don't know what to do about Taskstream and Field Work. I just want everything explained to me already! I'm also getting two of my wisdom teeth pulled out on Tuesday so my stress level is to a maximum. I'm just going to try to go with the flow, ask all the questions, and do my best. Reading will be my greatest escape. Well moderate escape after Bout of Books because I'll be studying most of the time.

As you may have noticed I'm sidetracking my TBR Jar picks once again with Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant.
"Lovable ne'er-do-well Delilah Dirk has travelled to Japan, Indonesia, France, and even t…

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 6: Challenges

Challenge #9: Spell it Out

The 9th challenge I am participating in is a spell it out challenge over atKimberlyfaye Reads. The basic goal is to spell out a word - either your name, initials, birthday month, or zodiac sign. I decided to go with my zodiac sign. I am a Scorpio.

I love making collages. I think this one came out rather pretty if I do say so myself.

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 5: Reading Update

So Day 5 of Bout of Books was a bust. I hardly got to read. I didn't even really feel like it today. I promised to read the book above, Who Could That Be at this Hour?, and return it tomorrow so I decided to change pace. I'll continue Witches of East End after I finish this book. "The adventure began in a fading town. Far from anyone he knew or trusted, a young Lemony Snicket started an apprenticeship for a secret organization shrouded in mystery and secrecy. He asked questions that shouldn't have been on his mind. Now he has written an account that should not be published that shouldn't be read. Not even by you. Seriously, we recommend that you do NOT ask your parents for this, the first book in his new ALL THE WRONG QUESTIONS series. Lemony Snicket, in case you don't already know, grew up to be the author of A Series of Unfortunate Events series."
I'm really excited to start another Lemony Snicket series. It'll be strange reading this one on accou…

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 5: Challenges

Challenge #7: Recreate a Cover

The 7th challenge I'm participating is recreating a cover over at Spines and Covers. This challenge was really fun. I'm glad I've seen some others draw their recreations because I drew mine as well. Fair warning I'm not an artist. And also I am not a child. I just draw like one.
Original Cover:
My Cover:
I used Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender as a reference. I chose to make once side blue and another side yellow with a crack in the middle to represent the story within. This series is crazy dark. I admit I haven't finished it because it was so dark for me at the time. I think I was a preteen when I started reading this series. Anyways the whole book is about how their are multiple lives you live based on certain big moments. One life I believe the main character lives, is one where someone close to him died while the other that person is still alive. The tree is very important in the story so I drew him surrounded by it.

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 4: Reading Update

Day 4 Complete! I can't believe I am up to 5 books read. I've gotten lucky enough where after I read the graphic novel form of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children I chose at random Relish from my TBR Jar. After I read that I incidentally cheated for the first time. I just got Jane Eyre from the library and I chose it but thing is it is super long and it's written in Pride and Prejudice fashion. I really don't want to take up so much time reading Jane Eyre because I know it'll take me the rest of the Bout of Books. So.... I chose at random again and picked Witches of East End. I'll read Jane Eyre when I choose it again later on but not during the Bout of Books. "A vibrant, food-themed memoir from beloved indie cartoonist Lucy Knisley.
Lucy Knisley loves food. The daughter of a chef and a gourmet, this talented young cartoonist comes by her obsession honestly. In her forthright, thoughtful, and funny memoir, Lucy traces key episodes in her life thu…

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 4: Challenges

Challenge #6: Like This, Try This

The sixth challenge I am participating in is Like This, Try This over at Writing My Own Fairytale. It's basically a recommendation challenge. Here are the main rules:

"You must recommend a book based on another book, movie, tv show, etc similar to this: “If you liked _____, you should try _____ because _____.”
Any genre and reading level is fine and you may use any set-up you like, so long as you’re recommending a book based on something else and explaining why."

Both of the books I've picked aren't exactly popular but I promise you they are both amazing reads if you like their descriptions. If you haven't read any of them you should read both of them! Just saying...

If you like this: How Not to be Popular by Jennifer Zieglar.

"Maggie Dempsey is tired of moving all over the country. Her parents are second-generation hippies who uproot her every year or so to move to a new city. When Maggie was younger, she thought it was fun a…

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 3: Reading Update

I can't believe the third day is about to be over. I've officially read three books in total. After visiting so many new blogs I've found new series I want to read and I feel very motivated to read more than 1 book a day. I don't know if it'll happen. I think that time would be better spent writing my reviews which I plan to start soon.
My next book chosen at random from my TBR Jar is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - the graphic novel version. I read the original version a while back for a book club read. I decided to pick this version up to not only see how it is but refresh my memory on the story before I read the next book. I'm glad I finally picked out a graphic novel book. I have a ton still waiting for me to read so I better read this one fast so I can get on to some more books!
"Ransom Riggs's haunting fantasy bestseller adapted to a graphic novel! As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying…

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 3: Challenges

Challenge #5: Create a Sentence

The fifth challenge I am participating in is the create a sentence challenge over at Book Reviews from Christian Gal. The goal is to use the first two words in a few books to create a sentence. This was by far the hardest challenge I've had to do thus far. I'm allowed to add more words if I need to, to my sentence. I think I could only add one but I added two.

The Secret Life of Bees: At night Breadcrumbs: It snowed A Really Awesome Mess: Home crappy Added words: inside the
My Sentence: At night it snowed inside the crappy home.
Not very creative but it took me forever to find coherent words so it'll have to do.

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 2: Reading Update

Day 2 of Bout of Books went extremely well. I read almost 400 pages and finished a book. A really good book at that. Problem is I fell asleep at 3 am because I was reading so late. I woke up super late so by the time I was finished with that book most of the day had gone by. I need to try a different strategy. But, I couldn't stop reading! Daughter of Smoke and Bone was just too good. This is a better problem than I usually have which is not reading at all so I'll try to wake up early and get lots of reading done then.

My next book chosen at random was Dead Girls Don't Lie but since I found out my ebook library loan expired I had to choose another one which happened to be the last book in the Keepers trilogy. I read the second Keeper's trilogy book for my first Bout of Books read so I thought that was amusing. Out of all of the books I could choose from I chose that one. I don't have to wait to complete the series!

"A shiver of loathing ran through Goldie. It wa…

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 2: Challenges

Challenge #3: One True Pairing

The third challenge I'm participating in is discussing my One True Pairing with all of you happening at Infinite Ink.

An OTP I have discovered is a One True Pairing. I've heard the term OTP but never knew what it was until today. I have a strange surge to talk about some of the wonderful romances I've come across in my years of reading. I don't think I've met a pairing that didn't get together that I loved more than the actual pairing.

Some people apparently like to pair two people who aren't canon which means it didn't happen in the original story. For example: Some people thought Harry and Hermione should be together. It's not canon because those two didn't end up together. I'm writing this down because I want to have it somewhere where I can remember it since I've always seen it around but never figured out what all this means.

I was going to use Juliet and another character from the Shatter Me series to r…

Bout of Books 11.0 Day 1: Reading Update

Hey guys! The first day of Bout of Books has been pretty great. I finished City of Lies by Lian Tanner early in the morning. I was so busy the whole day with volunteering, blogging, and forcing myself to exercise that I've only gotten up to page 24 on my next book. I chose at random from my TBR Jar and picked Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. So far it shows promise.
"Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands", she speaks many languages - not all of them human - and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is…

Bout of Books 11.0 Sign Up and Reading Goals

Bout of Books 11.0 is drawing near and you know what that means.... READ-A-THON! I haven't read a book in a week... a whole WEEK! Fall Semester is starting the day after this read-a-thon ends so I figured I'd go crazy this week with reading and preparing reviews.
This actually came at the perfect time. If you haven't noticed I haven't been on the blog for a consistent amount of time this month... well all Summer really. I usually am pretty consistent on the blog when I'm avoiding doings things during school. I can't do that this semester so I might as well get some reviews scheduled while I have the time. I've been reading and blogging so little this should help motivate me. For this read-a-thon I'm trying something new that I want to implement in my everyday reading.
I'm deciding the books I'll read next with a TBR Jar!

This jar was originally given to me for a group assignment so it has my name on it. My name's Adriana not Adrian (of course …

Catch a Falling Star by Kim Culbertson

Standalone. Point (April 2014) Own
Nothing ever happens in Little, California.

Which is just the way Carter Moon likes it. She's planning on a low-key summer of days working at her parents' restaurant and nights spent stargazing with her best friends Alien Drake and Chloe, all while avoiding even thinking about life after senior year. But when Hollywood arrives to film a movie starring former child star turned public relations mess Adam Jakes, everything changes. Suddenly, Carter's beautiful, sleepy town has turned into a giant glittery set and, much to Carter's annoyance, everyone is starry-eyed for Adam. Carter seems to be the only girl not falling all over herself to get a glimpse of the stunning star. Which apparently makes her perfect for the secret offer of a lifetime: playing the role of Adam's girlfriend while he's in town, to improve his public image, in exchange for a hefty paycheck.

Her family really needs the money, and to her own surprise, Carter fin…
