1. Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu

2. I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

3. The Sisters Grimm Series by Michael Buckley

4. Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm

5. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Graphic Novel) by Ransom Riggs

Challenge #2: Playlist

WeHeartIt
The second challenge I am participating in is creating a playlist for one of the books I'm planning to read over at Lulo Fangirl. Since it is much harder to do a playlist for a book I haven't read I'm doing one for the book I completed this morning:

City of Lies by Lian Tanner!

This book has to do with kidnappings, thieves, princesses, rescues, plots, lies, betrayal, fortune telling, responsibilities, secrets, generosity, and making new friends.

"Goldie Roth is a trained thief and a skilled liar. Along with her friend Toadspit, she's supposed to be one of the Keepers of the mysterious Museum of Dunt. But although she desperately wants to be a Keeper, she will not leave her sick parents to do so.
But when Toadspit's sister Bonnie is stolen, he and Goldie are forced to follow the child-stealers to the neighboring city of Spoke. Along the way, Toadspit too is captured, and Goldie is caught up in the Festival of Lies, where every word she says means something else and no one can be trusted. There, Goldie discovers some dangerous secrets—secrets that the child-stealers will kill to protect. She will need all her skills as a thief and a liar if she is to survive and save her friends."

City of Lies Playlist:

1. The Kids - B.o.B
2. Ain't No Rest for the Wicked - Cage the Elephant
3. Pumped Up Kicks - The Kooks
4. Titanium - Sia
5. Count on Me - Bruno Mars

This is a middle grade book but some of the songs fit my age group more.

Why I chose these songs:

1. All of the kids in this book have been either oppressed at one point or homeless/starving at another point. So these kids are struggling.

2. This is specifically for the villains in the story that kidnap Goldie's friends - Toadspit and Bonnie. It's kind of a great villain theme song.

3. Kind of a harsh song but true in this story. The main characters are running for their lives from people who want them gone.

4. This is for Goldie. She's courageous through and through. She could have used some inspirational music when she began doubted herself in the story.

5. Another song for Goldie. She constantly perseveres even when her back is against the wall - all for her friends. She is even willing to give up her dream of being 5th Keeper in the Museum of Dent because she's worried her parents need her. She's loyal to her family and friends and they are loyal right back.

Comments

  1. Hey, the Sisters Grimm series! I just now saw you had it on here, and I absolutely adore that series! Still haven't been able to get my hands on the last book though :(
