New Year's Resolutions + December Wrap-Up

Source
2016 is coming upon us and it's time for those New Year's Resolutions. I love making lists and goals so I'm the type of person who makes resolutions for the year. I know sometimes I don't work on my goals the whole year, but I don't think I'll ever be deterred not to have at least one resolution. One of the most important ones always on the top - reading more books!

My Book Resolutions

  • Read more picture books
  • Read more graphic novels and mangas
  • Keep track of reading challenges
  • Read non-fiction books
My Non-Book Related Resolutions

  • Draw for fun again
  • Try learning how to crochet
  • Try your hand out at new recipes
  • Exercise and drink water regularly
  • Explore religion and pray
  • Take more pictures
I have lots plans as you can see. Last month I had a grand old time almost getting caught up to my NetGalley reviews. Only three older books left to read and review. Hallelujah!

And... rewatching Bob's Burgers was basically my life other than Lizzie Bennet Diaries and new book to vlogs. Among them, I finished The Misselthwaite Archives (The Secret Garden).

Binge-watching Classic Alice where our main character acts the way characters in books would when facing a certain situation in life. You might get some spoilers of classic books, but you might end up forgetting and like me be enticed to read some classics.

Also, binge watching Green Gables Fables (Anne of Green Gables) which has some awkward acting from the main actress but ultimately made me want to read about Anne and Gilbert.

I also watched and loved Jessica Jones and Dark Matter and got into... Into the Badlands. Star Wars was amazing. I watched Hallmark movies galore. I watched how awesome Project for Awesome was this year and I'll be getting a poster soon of TFiOS - woot!

In real life, a cousin was born. And of course, most of the gifts I've given her are books. I completed my Fall semester (I'm sorry to say goodbye to art class). My dog's weird creepy eye is semi-okay now (he had to have surgery for an ulcer). I enjoyed spending time with my family around Christmas time and I enjoyed blogging and commenting more than I have in a while (I still need work in that area). It was a pretty great break and thank goodness there is more to come.

In December I Read

  • Counting in the Garden by Kim Parker
  • Nonsense! by Edward Lear
  • Fancy Nancy Tea for Two by Jane O'Connor
  • Some Kind of Magic by Adrian Fogelin
  • A Girl Called Malice by Aurelia B. Rowl
  • Yotsuba&!2 by Kiyohiko by Azuma
  • Court by Cat Patrick
  • P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
  • I Wish for You by Camilla Isley
Favorite Books of the Month: A Girl Called Malice and I Wish for You

And without further ado, onto the books!

Every January I read way more books compared to the rest of the year (not including read-a-thons in Summer). There will be ten days of freedom before the next semester and a Bout of Books is going to take place so... I have lots of books in store. Admittedly I've maxed out the number of books I can get from the library in anticipation of the new year. Here are the books I have my eye on reading this January:

Finding Serendipity -- Backlash -- Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer -- Princess Academy -- The Year of the Fortune Cookie -- Almost Home

What did you love about December?
What are some of your resolutions for 2016?

  1. Great wrap-up post Adriana :) I'm aiming to read more Manga in 2016 too! I really like how it's something contrary to what I am comfortable reading, and I really enjoy the anime illustrations too - I love anime period.

Non-fiction books are a bit of a challenge for me to pick up mainly because a lot of the author's views are really hard for me to grasp, but at the same time, they help broaden my perspective. ;)

I love to crochet with my girls! I highly recommend Teresa Richardson - she's a Youtube guru who has endless videos on different types of crochet stitches and they are all super easy to follow along ;)

Wishing you all the best in 2016! Happy New Year!

    1. Manga is not contrary for me, more like I just don't have all the books in one series at my library. So it's kind of hard to get into but manga is still so great. I actually have all of Dragon Ball so I should really read that already. It depends on what you like but I really enjoyed My Little Monster and Noragami.
It's really rare for me to read non-fiction. I don't really know why. I guess it might be because of the content or just because I don't think it will be as pleasurable as fiction.
Thanks for the link! I tried last year but failed. I need to do something very simple. I'm a very slow learner but hopefully Teresa and some crotchet books can help me out.
Happy New Year to you too Claudia :D

  2. I purchased the Sword of Summer for my sister for Christmas and then proceeded to read it this past week. It is a great book and I hope you enjoy it.
I might need to check out some of those YouTube vlogs. I've never heard of them before.
Thanks for sharing. I hope you have a wonderful new year!

    1. I'm really excited to finally read Magnus Chase. Although, I'm hesitant. What if it isn't as great as the Percy Jackson series?
You should! The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is the best.
Hope you have a wonderful new year too!

    2. I actually thought Magnus was more hilarious than Percy. I didn't even know if that was possible until this book. Also, Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series makes an appearance. :-)

    3. GASP! Blasphemy! I'd be super happy if that were true for me too. I heard about Annabeth making an appearance and her relation to him. So excited XD

  3. I really liked Batgirl of Burnside. I'm trying to read more graphic novels too! I also really want to read Into the Grey- I haven't see that one any blogs yet, so that's cool you are going to read it! yay for some time off to get lots of reading/blogging in. ;)

Looks like you have some great goals for the blog. Best of luck! I signed up for the non-fiction reading challenge because I DO like various non-fic reads, so I hope I can read more!

    1. Into the Grey looks really good. It came out maybe a few months ago?? I can't remember. I really should have signed up for the blog tour when it first came out. I expect good things!

Ooh... I may sign up for that. I might wait a while though to see what specific non-fiction books I want to read. Thanks for letting me know about the challenge!

  4. Nice wrap-up post! I love your resolution to read more picture books, especially since it sounds like you are an artist. One of the things I miss about not having a young child around is that I don't automatically pick up picture books anymore; I have to think about it. And I do enjoy them. I think I'll try to catch up with a few of my favorite illustrators this year, like Jan Brett and Susan Jeffers.

    1. Haha! Nope, definitely not. I just love drawing and miss it so much. I have a few artists in the family though. I have no kids but still enjoy picture books. I'm a teacher in training so I want to read some if I get the little kids so I know what books are good and what books aren't. I'll look those two up (:
