June Reading Plans // Romance Take-Over

I am still so behind on my weekly recaps, but rewriting my last post got me out of wanting to write anything else this past week. However, summer is almost here and I've had this plan of going over my personal reading challenges, so I am back to being excited about writing. I want to focus on my Reading My Age challenge. My challenges are pretty basic, but it's my way of focusing on diverse books in different age groups. Not all of these are diverse, but the majority are. For my Reading My Age, my main goal this year is to read diverse romance.

Right now, I'm reading mostly from my YA list. I am most behind in my adult reading challenge so that's why I wanted to focus on it. I'm only at 2 out of 23 books read, which is only 9% books read. Below are the books on my list:

Blitz'd was the first book I read this year and I thought I was starting off this challenge so well... It's a very mature MM Romance which had its moments even though the start of the relationship is very questionable.

Absolutely nothing was read on this part of the list. I plan on removing some books and adding others that have caught my eye after June is over.

I recently read Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter which was a Howl's Moving Castle wannabe.

I decided to add books to my list. I added The Starter Ex and The Bridge Back to You which are two books I loved. It upped my reading challenge read percentage but now I need to hone in on what I plan on reading this June.

Upcoming Reads

I don't know if I am going to finish these books before June so these are my immediate want to read books. I've been dying to read Wooing the Witch Queen since I got it. I'm craving a fantasy romance (romantasy). I've had Bad Cheerleader on every single monthly TBR I've set for myself this year and I can't move on until I've read it. Lastly, I will not get behind on my ARC reads ever again so The Chismosas Only Book Club is another must-read.

June Books on My Challenge List

I will not be getting through all of the books on this list. I can only read so many physical books a month, but I'm going to give it my all. These are the books already on my challenge list. Love is a War Song is a book by an indigenous author featuring a musician and a cowboy. Can't Get Enough has the most gorgeous cover I've seen in forever. I've been meaning to try reading more Kennedy Ryan and this will hopefully be the gateway book. I have discovered I don't mind monster romance, although Tusk Love is just romantasy with a DnD setting. I love that it's part of the Critical Role world and the MMC is supposed to be very loving.

I discovered both Spring Awakening and Summer Breakdown last year. I enjoy sports romance and enjoy YA sapphic reads so I am hoping to enjoy an adult sapphic sports romance. Let's Do This is a hockey MM romance that was influenced by Heated Rivalry (go figure). I would like to read own voices MM in the future but that's a journey for another time.

These last books have the cozy fantasy/sci-fi feel that I'm drawn more and more to. The Teller of Small Fortunes was a book I got on sale and I really need to read the books I own. Automatic Noodle sounds like the perfect read for me as a loved the slow pace of the Monk and Robot duology. I tried reading it earlier this year, but I've only recently been able to read books physically, so I'm taking another shot at it.

June Books NOT on My Challenge List

I'll admit that I've bought more romance books than I've read. I am here to change that. This is why I've dubbed this June Romances month in my head. I realized I had not picked up any asian romances this whole year until it was AAPI Month so I got to reading summaries at the Steamy Lit Bookstore and Enemies to Lovers had the most potential. I don't think I've ever preordered a book or maybe I did once a decade ago but I did so for By the Bootstraps. Lie I said before, I want to read as much diverse romance as possible this year and cowboy romances have been calling my name. Safety Net was another random pick that I've never heard of before. The premise sounds cute. I've been wanting to read a Grumpy X Sunshine book, and I like that it's between a hockey player and a band nerd.

I've known about More Like Enimigas for a while. I found a LGBTQ website that promotes queer books. I found a post about new releases for the upcoming year and this one stood out. I love the enemies-to-lovers trope. It's also supposed to have a foodie element and it's by a Latina. What's not to like? Meanwhile, I was bamboozled by Not Another Love Song. I wasn't quite sure when I got the book if the author was Latina by her picture and I should have trusted that instinct, but BooksandLala loved this book so I'm not too mad about buying it. I've been interested in books with musicians lately and this one features a rival musician love story that could be lots of fun. My last book is Big Girl Blitz, which is all over TikTok. Apparently, Lamar is the best man in the whole Curvy Girl series. I'm mostly interested in this romance more than the earlier two because I love sports romances.

Phew! All done. I'm really going to try to push myself to read as many books as possible from this list. I know that the majority of my month is packed at work, but I have a plan and reading will have to be my reward/escape. I want to read at a minimum of 4 books because that's what I've read this month so far (everything else has been on audio), but I also am going to push myself to read 8. Wish me luck!
