January Reading Wrap-Up & Stats

First month done! My reading went a bit sideways on account of only reading four of the books I wanted to read in January. I tried to read based on these lists I created for myself at the end of the year for must reads, nonfiction, series, and backlisted ARCs. I got some of them down but I'm such a mood reader sometimes that I can't help myself. I did learn that the over forty books I've checked out of my library need to be relooked at. I'm terrible at keeping books from the library for long periods of time when I'm the type of person who decides like the day of what I'm going to read. Although I can never get away from my plan making ways. By the end of this post I will have picked books to return to the library. Let's see how much I will part with.

10 Blind Dates ★★★ - Cute, Christmas-y read that has a great family element.
Pretend She's Here ★★ - Luanne Rice is not the writer for me.
Lifestyles of Gods and Monsters ★★ - Childish insta-love story.
Jane Anonymous ★★ - Why can't I get a good kidnapping story? Why do I want one? 🤔

Serpent & Dove ★★★★ - Got lost in the world although it's true that the song she sings is pretty stupid (re: readwithcindy)
Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism ★★★ - Made me think of all the books and stuff I still have to sift through before I move.
Tokyo Ghoul, Vol. 1 ★★★★ - A good start to a series I need to finish already!
The Year of Less: How I Stopped Shopping, Gave Away My Belongings, and Discovered Life Is Worth More Than Anything You Can Buy in a Store ★★ - Pretty interesting story but it didn't wow me or anything.
What I Talk About When I Talk About Running ★★★ - A calming story about a writer who loves running. Motivated me to start running again.

Reading Stats

Favorite Book of the Month: Serpent & Dove
Worst Book of the Month: Pretend She's Here
Books Read: 9
Pages Read: 2,731
Genres Read: 1 contemporary romance, 2 fantasies, 1 horror, 2 mysteries, and 3 nonfiction.
Author: 6 female authors and 3 male authors.
Age Range: 3 adult books and 6 YA books.

I read 3 nonfiction books but none of them from my must read list. Of course. I'm actually glad I read so many well I listened to so many because the goal is to read more nonfiction this year. I'm also happy that I read 3 male authors and 3 adult books since I want to read more of those as well. I try to cool it with YA but it's an age range of reading that I tend to gravitate more to. I am so behind in my reading. I'm supposed to be reading around 14 books each month if I want to reach my goal of 175 books this year but as long as I'm not 11 books behind then I'm fine. I'm also happy to have participated in a readathon this past month called BookQuest. I only read three books but I'll be looking for the second volume of the challenge because it's such a me readathon. Loved the way I could update my books as well.

It's the end of the post and I went through my library books as promised. I'm going to be returning 11 books and 1 movie. I'll be checking out three books soon but at least it's something.

How did your reading go in January?

  1. Even though you didn't read a lot from your TBR, that's still a lot of books! And great job on the nonfiction reading!
