Choose my Next TBR Read #2

I'm currently at 436 tbr reads which is up from last month. I really enjoyed guessing what books everyone would choose and going through my tbr list to see what books I have left to read for my first Choose my Next TBR Read. I work at a library so I really need to calm down from adding too many books because I want to keep my tbr list at a reasonable number. I'm hoping this feature helps me with my cause.

My last tbr read you picked was We Have Always Lived in a Castle. The ebook loan expired early so I have to wait until the end of the month to obtain and finish the book. When I do complete the book I plan on reviewing it either later in January or in early February. From where I left off there was a lot of potential for the book to get interesting. There is a lot of animosity in the air between the main character and the townspeople.

I'll have several options covering various age ranges and genres. The way I chose these books is that I randomized my TBR list on Goodreads and chose whichever top books I saw that I thought I would enjoy. If I didn't see any I think I would enjoy at that moment, I randomized again. Except for my last pick which I chose with a tbr jar I created. In the future I will talk about my tbr jar and use it as a way to pick books for this feature.

Below are the options.

The first book is a fairly recent addition. Watching You feels like it would be a very nerve-racking, thriller that'll keep me guessing. I absolutely love those but I always want the characters to live happily ever after. That isn't usually the case.

Why Can't I Be You from far away looks like it has a toad on the cover. You can not tell me that couch does not look like a toad... Anyway, I like the switching places aspect of this story. The title led me to believe that the MC would eventually come to terms with liking herself as she is but from the summary it kind of just seems like a fun caper. Wherever the story takes me, I think I'll enjoy Why Can't I Be You.

I've heard mix thing about Baba Yaga's Assistant but the artwork and the storyline is something I think I would really enjoy. I haven't read Baba Yaga's original tale but I know of her from The Sisters Grimm series. The idea of this old witch wanting an assistant makes me think this will be a funny, adventurous tale.

I've read The Shining by Stephen King before but nothing else. Elevation seems like a very interesting, possibly inspirational, and terrifying story. It's also very short so its a good book to dive back into King's work.

Late last year I watched a YouTube video where someone talked about their love for a short books. That led me to seek out recommendations for short reads, one of my discoveries was The Lonesome Bodybuilder, a collection of short stories. There are some fantastical stories that I'm interested seeing play out. I'm unsure about this one, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong.

I haven't read How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True mainly because my library didn't carry it however, there are no excuses now. One of the reading apps contains an ebook copy of the book so it's about time I read this story set in what seems to be an alternative Disneyland.

I became aware of Felicia Day back in 2008 when she did Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (LOVED IT). I've seen her do a few cameos and I know she's known for being around the internet in nerdy videos like TableTop. I'm interested to see what she has to say. I would like to get to know her personality and how she got into her world on the internet in You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost)

I've had Burn for Burn on my shelf for years and it's been on my tbr for longer. I originally wanted to use it as a theme read for revenge but I changed my mind. This is the only book I have a physical copy of and the only series read. I'm curious is anyone has read this book and will choose it as my tbr read for February.

The winner is...

You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day

Let me know which book(s) I should pick through the survey.
What tbr book have you recently added to your list?

  1. That couch doesn't look like a toad...lol :) It looks like the couch everybody had in the 1970's and maybe the early 1980's. I had a couch like that in my apartment in the late 90's. It wasn't pretty but it was a good couch. I hope you enjoy whichever book you end up reading.

  5. I really love this idea! As you saw from my own TBR issues, I am attempting to control mine as well. I chose the Felicia Day book because I really ended up enjoying it. My first introduction to her was when she was a Potential on Buffy and I hated her. But to fair, I hated all the Potentials because they were stupid and annoying. I Tweeted about my review of the book and Day 'liked' it. I about died, it was pretty neat.

    1. Another person who enjoyed the Felicia Day book! I'm more eager to read it then every. I didn't know she was a potential on Buffy!? It's been way too long since I've watched that series. I think when they started adding other slayers, my interest in the show waned. Haha (: - That's awesome that she saw your tweet.

  6. I haven't read King in years but back in the day I was an uber fan. The Stand is still one of my all time favorite books. I hope you can give us a preview of Elevation.

    1. He must have like upwards of 50+ books by now. I've heard of people attempting to read all of his books. I've only read The Shining by him. If I get the chance to read Elevation I'll let you know (:

    1. I hope so too! Yeah, I feel like my reading tends to be very mixed in general. Although, I do like certain genres the best - contemporary and fantasy.

    1. Interesting! I'm curious to see what made you stop once I post my review. I've actually heard not so great things about Elevation. It is a short read so I might try it anyways.
