Choose my Next TBR Read #1

I once had a TBR list of around 1,000 books. I've culled it down over the years to 400+ books. I tend to focus on new books or books I want to read in that moment, that I neglect books I've added to my list. I want to change that with a new feature where you choose my next TBR read.

I'll have several options covering various age ranges and genres. The way I chose these books is that I randomized my TBR list on Goodreads and chose whichever top books I saw that I thought I would enjoy. If I didn't see any I think I would enjoy at that moment, I randomized again.

Below are the options.

I first chose Vampirina Ballerina and then decided to find two similar books on my list that I can also get at the library. Those books are The Midnight Library and Zombelina. I know it is January but it is never not the right time to read spooky reads. I think these all fit nicely with each other. Two of them even feature ballerinas!

Dates added:
  • Vampirina Ballerina: Nov. 20th, 2015
  • The Midnight Library: Sept. 23rd, 2013
  • Zombelina: Nov. 20th, 2015

I chose Delicious in Dungeon and then decided that I should read three volumes because it is a manga. My library ends up only having four books in the series so I put them all on here. I like the style of this one. It's really strange which isn't surprising because it was recommended by my brother who has very broad yet specific tastes. He reads a lot of books I've never heard of so that's mainly why I say all that. Anyways, the premise sounds like a video game. It looks like an RPG game to me too. The characters having to defeat and cook the monsters is extremely strange but I'm willing to give it a try.

I chose Fenway and Hattie as soon as I saw it after I randomized my section. I instantly remembered what it was about and knew I had to put it on this list. I love that it is narrated by a dog. There was this program when I was younger that I believe had a Jack Russel Terrier too that talked and was a detective. Do you remember that? Anyways, this could be such a heartwarming story.

The Good Girl has such a pretty looking cover and title. I read Don't You Cry by Kubica last year which I really loved. The premise is intriguing. It looks like someone wants the MC and the love interest is hiding her away. It all seems very shady and I'm here for it. I hope for another winner from Kubica.

I chose We Have Always Lived in a Castle based on the creepy looking cover. I didn't realize it was a classic until I clicked on to see what it was about. It seems that the MC was charged for poisoning some family members but was acquitted of the crime. Now a cousin comes in and another character is trying to protect the MC. I'm curious if the book is going to have an obvious killer. If so, I hope he or she is written well at least.

American Panda looks like such a cute, cozy read based on the cover. I was so excited to see it pop up because I was so hyped for American Panda when I first discovered it. It reminds me a lot of this book I read a year ago, The Mango Season, when it comes to parents and a culture deciding the future of its children. You have to get married to someone in your culture and be in a certain field or you might just become estranged from your family. I'm looking forward to that serious part, the romance, and the promise of laughs.

  1. Fenway and Hattie is popular with my 3rd grade students. :) I have only read the beginning so far (I read the first couple chapters when we got it in the library). It is told from the dog's point of view. The kids think it's hilarious. :)

Also- you won a copy of Sarah the Bold by Eileen Lettick on our blog. She will mail the copy out to you if you can send along your address to Jessica. Jess's email is: haightjess at gmail dot com. Thanks! Congratulations. It is a great book.

    1. This is the book I thought most people were going to vote for. I think I'll end p reading it later in the year if it doesn't become the top most voted one. My tbr is getting crowded now that I work at a library especially because of all the cute picture books!
