Book Recommendations for the Aquarius in Your Life

I don't know about you, but I've never put much stock into zodiac signs and their personalities. But, when I started thinking about it, it is always interesting to find out what sign a person is and if they match their personality.

How do zodiac symbols work exactly? Well, "Astrology posits that the natural world and we human beings in it are affected by the movements of the sun, moon and stars through the heavens, and that who we are is shaped by the exact position of these celestial bodies at the time of our birth. (Smithsonian). The link attached goes over studies and whether or not horoscopes or personality types based on your zodiac symbol are actually true. It's an interesting read.

Anyway I thought it would be fun to research all the zodiac signs and come up with books I've read that each personality type would enjoy. First up are the Aquarians. You are an Aquarius if you were born from January 20th through February 18th.

According to Astrograph, Aquarians bear the symbol of the Water Bearer. They are rebellious, eccentric, spontaneous, original, forward-thinking, detached, value social contact, intuitive, imaginative, inventive, and most of all - they are humanitarians. My dad is an Aquarius and I would agree with the imaginative, values social contact, and forward-thinking characteristics when it comes to him. If I would channel my dad into book recommendations though they would be business and health books (he doesn't read much) so I don't know about that.

The characteristics I'm drawing from when looking for book recommendations are: Forward-thinking, original, and humanitarian. I think those three sum up the Aquarius description rather nicely.

Forward-thinking means someone who is progressive or favors innovation. Basically someone who is open to change and comes up with new ideas.

Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano fits the characteristic of forward-thinking because Morgan has always had a call to the edge of her island in the sky. After key events/discovery she thinks, unlike the government, that the Earth offers more than just barren land.

Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock fits the characteristic of forward-thinking because D.J. decides to something rarely done and become a football player on her high school football team - surprise, she's a girl!

Divergent by Veronica Roth fits the characteristic of forward-thinking because it has Tris fighting against society norms as a Divergent.

Original means a person who is unique or (in my eyes) someone who embraces who they are inside.

The Only Pirate at the Party by Lindsey Stirling and Brook S. Passey fits the characteristic of original because Lindsey Stirling made her career doing something that no one could have expected - playing violin while dancing.

Crazy is my Superpower by A.J. Mendez Brooks fits the characteristic of original because A.J. Brooks took her humble, chaotic beginnings and became an original women's wrestler who didn't conform to the overly sexual look of the WWE women's division.

Everything Must Go by Jenny Fran Davis fits the characteristic of original because Flora has a vintage style that's uniquely her but she sheds that look to embrace her artistic side.

Humanitarian means concerned with human welfare which is the happiness, health, etc. of a person, group, or organization.

Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen fits the characteristic of humanitarian because the main character steals from the rich and give to the poor with the help of Robin and his band of thieves. They take care of the people of Nottingham.

Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson fits the characteristic of humanitarian because Isabel is spying for the Patriots on her slave owners who know details of British invasion plans.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak fits the characteristic of humanitarian because the main character Leisel and her foster family hide a Jewish man in the time of the Holocaust.

What books do you think fall under the characteristics of an Aquarius?

  1. Oh, what a fun idea! It looks like you selected some awesome books for these three categories. I'm pretty sure The Book Thief is the only one I've read so far.
