It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #9

This meme is hosted by Book Journey

There weren't as many reviews this past week as I planned on but that happens sometimes. There is going to be a blog tour stop here on Sunday as well as a Blitz earlier this week. Hopefully I can get my other reviews down. I don't have that much to deal with school wise this week so I'm crossing my fingers.

Look at it! A friend did it for me. It's going to be my new picture when I comment plus I will make a button eventually. I've just been busy. Isn't it cute!?

Past Week Reads

The Wild Book

Taken turned out great. A little fast there for me but the story and where it's going excite me. The Wild Book was disappointing for me. It was too hectic and rushed. My first verse book down though.

Past Week Reviews

Last week I reviewed The Mockingbirds and Chocolate-Covered Baloney. The Mockingbirds presented a good plot but I thought it lacked a little. I am happy to say that the third book in the, Chocolate-Covered Baloney, was even better than the first. I hope to get more reviews done this week.

Currently Reading

Time's running out to read this one for NetGalley so I plan to read it fast. I really want to read it I just haven't had the time. I'm sure it'll be a great read. I'm starting it soon.

Book Discoveries

Undercurrent by Paul Blackwell
Undercurrent

In this suspenseful teen thriller with a touch of the otherworldly, perfect for fans of Neal Shusterman, a boy goes over a waterfall and wakes up to find himself in a twisted version of the life he knew.

A shadowy figure. An intense roar. The sensation of falling—fast.

That’s all Callum Harris remembers from his tumble over the waterfall. But when he wakes up in a hospital bed and finds his best friend trying to kill him, Callum knows something is seriously wrong. Unfortunately for him, the mysteries are just getting started.

Why are his parents acting like he’s some big sports star all of a sudden? And why are all the buildings in town more run-down than Callum remembers? Worst of all...what happened to Callum’s brother? Either Callum has gone seriously crazy or something happened when he went over the falls. Something impossible. Callum needs answers, and now. Because in this twisted new version of the life Callum knew, his former best friend isn’t the only one who wants to see him dead.

Filled with mind-bending suspense and unsettling thrills, Undercurrent is a grippingly paced teen debut that will pull you under and never let go.

The After Girls by Leah Konen
The After Girls

Ella, Astrid, and Sydney were planning the perfect summer after high school graduation. But when Astrid commits suicide in a lonely cabin, the other girls' worlds are shattered. How could their best friend have done this--to herself and to them? They knew everything about Astrid. Shouldn't they have seen this coming? Couldn't they have saved her?

As Ella hunts for the truth, and Sydney tries to dull the pain, a chilling message from Astrid leaves them wondering whether their beloved friend is communicating from the after life. The girls embark on a journey to uncover Astrid's dark secrets. The answers to those questions--questions they never dreamed of asking--will change their lives forever.

  1. I'm reading The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani, and I'm probably going to read Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.

    1. I need to read something by her! She's the only famous "Adriana" author I know of after all. Sounds like a retelling.

    1. Aw Thanks! Undercurrent does look amazing. I have to figure out how to add buttons that slide... so I don't have to have them all over the place.

  3. I noticed the new picture by your comment on my blog immediately! It's ADORABLE!!! I read the Wild Book last week sometime and was disappointed as well. It was different than what I was expecting. Hopefully your next verse novel will be a better experience! ;)

  4. I'm currently reading Terra by Gretchen Powell and the Dare To You by Katie McGarry.
Just finished V is for Virgin, which was entertaining, but annoying as hell.

I like your new comment picture too. Makes you stand out in the 'following' list.

  6. Sorry you didn't like The Wild Book more. I love the cover! I also think that The After Girls looks interesting. Good luck with your reviews this week. :)

    1. Yeah, it's too bad. The cover looks like it's painted on. The story of her writing about her grandmother's experience plus the book cover really made me want to read it. The After Girls is the type of book I love to read. It's kind of sad but true. I like learning truths about people and see inside their hearts. Thanks!

  7. The After Girls sounds brilliant. I'm surprised I haven't come across it before, but it's definitely going on my list now! :) I hope you enjoy Dead Man's Hand. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of it.

    Happy reading!

    1. I just went looking for books to put up on here and got lucky finding The After Girls and Undercurrent. Goodreads lists for 2013 YA books or something like that had them. Goodreads lists are always good for finding new and interesting books. I did enjoy Dead Man's Hand! It may not sound like it when I think about it now but I seriously did.
