It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #2

Weekly meme hosted by Book Journey.

Past Week Reads

Stuck On Earth by David Klass was a book about a snail alien traversing through the life of a 14 year old boy with a family that had issues... This was a first for me. A first alien book and I was quite impressed with it.

Tall Story by Candy Gourlay is about a boy who is considered a reincarnation of a Filipino mythology as a giant and his journey to his mother and sister in London while dealing with the guilt of leaving his family and trying to be the best big brother he can be. This was a sweet book with a tough girl character that I could appreciate.

Glitch by Heather Anastasiu where in the future world people's emotions are controlled through chips in their brains. I love dystopian's so this one was a no brainer for me. Can't wait for the next book to come out!

Book Club Read
We are on pg. 154 right now of The Night Circus. There are so many questions still going unanswered and it's driving me mad! The main thing in this book is a challenge going on and it's going so slow. I'm losing a little bit of my patience but I'm still loving this book especially since the last part showed me how the circus came about but the dates... so many questions!

Readalong Read
I'm participating in this readalong for those of you who don't know and we are reading the His Dark Materials over a two month period but you can work faster if you want. I haven't started this book yet. The only reason I'm really joining this readalong is because I just watched the movie and loved it. The first time I tried reading this book it didn't go that well but I am shaking that off and trying again. I did only read like a page before I stopped so I never gave it a chance. I have to read chapters 1-9 by Friday so stay tuned to discussion posts by with me and/or the hosts of the readalong on their blogs.

Possible Reads For This Week
Product Details

Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach where Felton Reinstein grows all of a sudden and gets all hairy but most of all gets stupid fast! Love YA Sports books.

Splendors and Glooms by Laura Amy Schlitz a puppeteer who makes his puppets look alive, a kidnapped girl, an evil witch, and a magic story that reminds me of The Night Circus so I'm pretty excited.

Our Blissful Bayou Beginnings by Danielle Peterson is one of two indie books I'm reading this week! It's about two immortals whose love for each other has gotten a bit sour but it's also about what love is and how America has changed since the early 19th century.

Any Love But Mine by Debbie Davies is all about greek mythology which because of Percy I love. And this one is all about love and how even though she was forbidden to love by the gods Acacia finds herself drawn to a man but maybe he's a god or simply a trick. Who knows? So excited for both my indie reads! Thanks to the authors.

Reviews Coming Up
Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin is primarily a love story and a girl who lost her memories. Not going to give away too much. You'll just have to see the review coming up!

  2. I really enjoyed both Splendors and Glooms and Stupid Fast, although they're very different kinds of books. I think either way you'll be reading something good!

    1. Ooh... good to know. I'm reading Stupid Fast now and the way the writing is and how the main character speaks is not at all what I thought it would be like but it's going good still.

  3. I really need to read Glitch. It sounds so good! And I still need to read The Night Circus as well. I'm enjoying The Golden Compass so far but I have to say it's pretty complicated--more than I expected, anyway. But yeah, I've got to read those first 9 chapters so I can get the discussion questions up. I better get to reading! :D

  4. I loved His Dark Materials the first times I read it. Last time I felt like something was missing from it. So I think I will have to read it again to see what I think :) Maybe it was a little slow in the beginning but when things start happening it´s really good! So don´t give up in the beginning!

    1. So it must get better. Right now it's kind of slow but I can see it picking up. I like most books way more than the average reader. I don't know why.
      No problem and likewise (:

  6. The Night Circus is wonderful! Yes, the chronology can get a bit confusing, but stick with it - it is worth it!

And our whole family loved the Pullman series - The Golden Compass is excellent and the second book is even better! A read-along sounds like fun.

    Enjoy your books this week!

  8. I have never read The Golden Compass- so I hope it is better for you this time. I haven't seen the movie either- but I have heard good things about it. I heard Splenders and Glooms is AMAZING. I cannot wait to read it! Happy reading. :)
