My Week in Reading: Besties, Drama, and Knowing Your Worth

I haven't had the best week, to be honest. Hopefully, changing things with my doctor will help. I am so glad I have an appointment tomorrow! Otherwise, I decided to actually crochet this week. I completed a colorful bandana project, but it's too big! I would make it again. I refuse to count so my headband project is coming off wonky. That's what I get... Once I get good, I might show off some pieces. I'm just learning and vibing right now.

I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a story when I was reading Besties: Work It Out. Then I realized this was a spin-off to the Click series, which I have not read. After I got used to the characters, I enjoyed the lesson on taking ownership of your mistakes. I don't think I've read anything with this message for kids before, and it's something everyone needs to learn, young or old.

I was very annoyed by these two getting a job as a house/dog sitter and then proceeding to wear this woman's clothes and posting pictures of them wearing the clothes on the internet. Did you not know the internet is forever!? And where did you get the audacity to do that!? I'm laughing while writing that up. Beth and Chanda were going to give me an anxiety attack, but the drama keeps your attention. And when those popular girls wanted to come over to a woman who has ENTRUSTED YOU WITH TAKING CARE OF YOUR WHOLE HOUSE and her adorable little dog, I couldn't look away. This book will have you stressed! I liked the message, even if these two annoyed me. Chanda especially. I am going to continue with the series. I am particularly interested in the Prank Wars book because I've been wanting to make sure I read books with boy main characters.

A guy thinks his girlfriend isn’t a serious enough actor, so he dumps her like it's nothing. She responds by getting a role on his show and falling for his love interest. 💁‍♀️ Marisol Acts the Part was so much fun! She gave off Legally Blonde vibes because she loves being girly, the color pink, and is very supportive of all her fellow actors. She's a real girls' girl. She also helped her cousin with dressing in drag! She's all around sweet. I loved who she was as a person.

Now her ex broke up with her because he thought, or more like his PR team saw her as a romantic comedy actress or TV show reality star. While he, Miles, was looking to take on more serious roles. All the while, Marisol would love to be a lead in a romantic comedy because why not? Nevertheless, she was going to prove to him and to everyone else that she is a serious actress, so she got a role on season 2 of this award-winning show, but the problem is that the director is an ass. He says after the first rehearsal, for everyone to make sure they don't wear loud colors because they give him a migraine... He was being passive-aggressive and other times he was just being straight-up toxic. He had her dye her hair and stop using her perfume. He wanted her to change everything about her. Marisol responds in the perfect way. Meanwhile, she falls for Jamila, who catches her eye not only because she's gorgeous but also because she's one hell of an actress. I loved them both so much! Such a great read. Didn't really think much of the cover and almost passed it by, but the premise got me. It was so much better than I could have imagined!

As you know, I crocheted this last weekend. I'm hoping to finish my lopsided headband soon. Otherwise, I have nothing really planned. I do need to get a move on and buy my roller skates... I might paint a pot at a local art place... I am not allowed to go book shopping in May. I already ordered a book, so that has to be it. Oh! I went to Steamy Lit again and bought 2 books on Indie Bookstore Day. Unfortunately, I was duped into thinking an author was Latina (I thought she didn't look Latina based on her pic...), but she wasn't, so I picked up not one but two white authors, which is fine, but I am trying to get more diverse books on my shelf. The book is rated highly, so I'll give it a shot. It's called - Not Another Love Song. The other book is Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis. I loved her middle-grade series. I could not resist!

Now on to what I am reading/planning to read this week. I am currently listening to Pocket Bear by Katherine Applegate. The POV is mainly from a very prideful cat. All you need to know is she's the best and is a big softie, even is she won't admit it. Interesting concept. I am almost halfway through. I plan to physically read You Only Live Twice by Autumn Allen. I got it as an eARC solely because I am a librarian. I'll recommend it to the teen librarian if I like it. I only got two ARCs because I am not trying to get into further debt on NetGalley... I haven't posted a review in a while. I might go back and review some older ARCs just so I can get them off there.

I was thinking of posting a recap of last year's reads soonish. Maybe. We'll see how I feel. I'm thinking that in June, I'll post a wrap-up of my reading for the first half of the year. I've been doing some of my own challenges that I'll write about in that post. Oh, and I am planning on being part of Middle Grade May, which is a readathon I found on YOUtube. The theme has to do with campfires and adventure, I think. I am also doing Escape the Readathon again! I'm hoping it gets me to read more physically to keep up. I am not planning on pressuring myself one way or another.
