2022 Reading Goals

Happy New Year! This is my favorite time of the year where I get to plan everything out. This year though I am not going to overpressure myself to read too much or complete any challenges. However, I do have some lowkey goals I want to accomplish this year. The only one I am focusing on the number amount is my yearly goal. Everything else are goals to keep in mind throughout the year.

I read 90 books last year including a few picture books that were counted and a whole ton of pictures that weren't counted. I'm going to end up reading more than 100 picture books next year because of my career but I wanted to only measure books I read for pleasure. As well as one of my other goals on here. I've read lower than 63 books before but mostly I've read 100+ a year. I'm not pressuring myself too much this year so about 5 to 6 books a month sounds reasonable.

I feel like I am constantly missing out on reading bigger books, slower-paced reads, and genres I just don't read as much. I really want to give Adult fantasy, sci-fi, horror, classics, and nonfiction more of the spotlight this year. I'm sure I'll read a bunch of YA fantasy, magical realism, romance, and contemporaries but this goal is here to remind me to give those books a chance. This is also part of the reason my yearly reading goal is so low. I'll finally have time for books outside my comfort zone.

I had read a couple of readers and one chapter book last year. I was going way above my Spanish reading level trying to read chapter books. I want to slow it down this year and read Spanish books even if they are for little kids, that are my level. These are the only very short books I'm planning to add to my reading count.

I've had books on my shelves for 10+ years and it's a little ridiculous at this point. I want to make it a point to get to a few of my owned books this year so I remember they exist.

In between those genres out of my comfort zone I want to read a lot of manga and graphic novels. I miss reading them. I've felt like they were too easy to read but they make me happy so why am I not prioritizing them? I don't think a lot of people are interested in reading about the fifth volume of a manga series I'm into but that won't stop me from reading them this year.

What are your reading goals for 2022?
