Mindful Ramblings 002

I've recovered from the soreness of helping move my brother's stuff. I've had a pretty stressful week at work as usual so I was listening to a lot of meditation music on my Instant Timer app. I apparently like listening to classical music now. I didn't get to review Remote Control like I wanted to but that just means I need to scale down my expectations. A Mindful Ramblings post, a discussion/list post, and a review a week are what works for me. I am going to start doing posts on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays soon. Except when I post my I Can't Wait Wednesday post for books I am excited to read. I'm really liking the consistency of my blog posts. I wish I can do more but I can't get anything reasonably done after work.

Last week I wanted to sew and I never got to. My sewing machine got an error and me and my mom spent forever dismantling the machine (like the videos said), trying to put all the nails where they were supposed to go, and ultimately asking my dad to remove one nail that was stuck. I can't believe he took less than a second with his ingenious magnetic tool. Now I just need to put the rest of the nails back in the machine to see if it works. I also ordered some more supplies. Actual fabric scissors, a self-healing cutting mat, a rotary cutter, and tailor's chalk. They'll take some time to get here but at least once I've practiced with what I've got when I am trying to make something nice with my checkered fabric (thought it was trees but it is not) then I'll feel nice and ready. Here's hoping another error doesn't pop up and ruin my plans!

Last week I only walked 42,444 steps. I was so good at walking at the beginning of the year but my walking partner - my dad - has been bailing. He works in his backyard too much... I do think if I play it right I can have more steps this week until I get back into a groove of walking more without having to rely on my dad. I have just been super stressed out.

This week I am sizing down my reading because I can have all of the plans in the world but if I make too many it isn't going to work. This is kind of a sneak peek to my Top 5 Books I Want to Read in March but I want to read physically Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev. I haven't started any books for my series goal and this was one of them that I thought would be fast and fun. I'm continuing with my book club read 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle which I've barely just started. I'm not sure how many chapters we will be doing but I am going to read eight chapters this weekend to keep up with my mom. The ebook/ARC I am focusing on is We Belong by Cookie Hiponia Everman. It comes out at the end of March so I want to keep my streak (of only one book...) of reading ARC's on time. I'm planning on listening to A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow. I've been wanting to read this to do another Hispanic Book Discussion but I have been slow to start. Now's the time or I'll move on to another book.

Last week I finished listening to Artificial Condition by Martha Wells. I enjoyed Murderbot's interactions with ART. It was good but not as good as the first. I read in one day This Will Be Funny Someday by Katie Henry which is the second book I read by her this month! I really enjoyed some topics brought up and the comedy factor but it wasn't as good as Let's Call it a Doomsday. I did really enjoy both books though despite my wording of those sentences!

Last week I discovered Mercury Boys by Chandra Prasad (YA Sci-Fi) and The Other Me by Sarah Zachrich Jeng (Sci-Fi/Thriller).

This week I'm planning on writing a list of the Top 5 books I want to read in March, a review for Remote Control, and another Mindful Ramblings. Last week I wrote my first Mindful Ramblings, a discussion entitled Should I Post Only Positive Reviews?, and two horror reviews in a post called Giving Horror a Chance.

This week the artist I am featuring has her very own Youtube channel. Here's art by Chris Hong:

How was your week?

  1. I am sorry to hear work was stressful. I hope this week will be more calm for you. I hope you were able to get your sewing machine sorted out. It sounds like you are reading some good books right now. I hope you like 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. That's one I keep hearing great things about but have yet to read myself. I love the artwork you shared by Chris Hong! Have a great week, Adriana!
