Part 1: Graphic Novels I'm Looking Forward To Reading

I've very bad at reading graphic novels/comics. There are so many good ones out there yet I don't take the time to read any of them. Below is a list of the ones I'm most excited to start reading. There is so many of them so I'm doing this in three parts. Yeah, I'm behind.

WELCOME TO THE LAND OF SPERA

Lono's life as a princess consisted of sitting, reading, and dreaming--until the day Pira, princess of a neighboring kingdom, arrived with news of a waking nightmare! With the help of Pira's best friend--a fire spirit in the form of a dog named Yonder--the princesses now find themselves in a race against evil. The goal: Spera, a magical realm of which the princesses had only ever heard the tallest tales. The prize: their very lives!

Thoughts: All I can think of when reading this summary is that the princesses are going to save themselves and I need that in my life.

A digest-sized, black-and-white trade paperback reprinting the 4-issue Vertigo miniseries from writer Mike Carey (LUCIFER) and artists Sonny Liew and Marc Hempel, MY FAITH IN FRANKIE tells the story of a girl who discovers that having your own personal deity isn't all it's cracked up to be - particularly when you're trying to get a boyfriend and your god turns out to be jealous! But as Frankie moves precariously into adulthood and her god Jeriven tries to win her back, sinister forces are at work that could spell disaster far beyond a broken heart, and Frankie and Jeriven will both have to do some fast growing-up if they're going to survive.

Thoughts: What a strange and clever book. I really want to see how Frankie interacts with her god.

When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. From New York Times bestselling writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina) and critically acclaimed artist Fiona Staples (Mystery Society, North 40), Saga is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in this sexy, subversive drama for adults.

Thoughts: Probably one of the most popular comics out there. Saga is for the more "adult" generation of readers because it can be so graphic. I like the whole forbidden love story in this comic.

They're a team of death-row super villains recruited by the government to take on missions so dangerous they're sheer suicide! Harley Quinn! Deadshot! King Shark! Defeated and imprisoned, they're being interrogated about their mission--and about who's pulling the strings behind this illegal operation.

Thoughts: You might not be aware that there is casting for a new movie called the Suicide Squad. I really want to read about the story before the movie comes out. I really like Harley Quinn because she's such a great villain so I'm feeling like I'm going to enjoy this comic.

This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s “big three” – Captain American, Iron Man and Thor – Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge will who will be worthy of the name THOR. Who is she? Where did she come from and what is her connection to Asgard and the Marvel Universe?

“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” says Marvel editor Wil Moss. “The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”

Thoughts: Thor re-imagined as a girl! I love the re-imagination because she looks amazing. I wonder how they are going to do everything with Loki and Jane. Are they going to gender bend them as well?

What do you think of a girl Thor?
