Clearing Out My To-Read List

My Goodreads list has been troubling me for some time now. It's been over-packed with books that frankly, I don't even remember or I know for a fact I won't read for years. So my plan this week was to take off a bunch of books from my to-read list which I successfully did. I had 1613 to-read books and now I have 1048 books. That means I got rid of 565 books from my list which took forever. I found a few books that I didn't remember what they were about or when I even added them that I want to share with you all because they all sound really good.

Maddie lives in a world where everything is done on the computer. Whether it’s to go to school or on a date, people don’t venture out of their home. There’s really no need. For the most part, Maddie’s okay with the solitary, digital life—until she meets Justin. Justin likes being with people. He enjoys the physical closeness of face-to-face interactions. People aren’t meant to be alone, he tells her.
Suddenly, Maddie feels something awakening inside her—a feeling that maybe there is a different, better way to live. But with society and her parents telling her otherwise, Maddie is going to have to learn to stand up for herself if she wants to change the path her life is taking.
In this not-so-brave new world, two young people struggle to carve out their own space.
Thoughts: I can't believe I haven't read this yet. Awaken is a book that is so me. I love dystopian futures and characters standing up for themselves.

I wanted the role of Juliet more than anything. I studied hard. I gave a great reading for it, even with Bobby checking me out the whole time. I deserved the part.
I didn't get it. So I decided to level the playing field, though I actually might have leveled the whole play. You see, since there aren't any Success in Getting to Be Juliet in Your High School Play spells, I thought I'd cast the next best; a Fame spell. Good idea, right?
Yeah. Instead of bringing me a little fame, it brought me someone a little famous. Shakespeare. Well, Edmund Shakespeare. William's younger brother.
Good thing he's sweet and enthusiastic about helping me with the play...and, ahem, maybe a little bit hot. But he's from the past. Way past. Cars amaze him - cars! And cell phones? Ugh.
Still, there's something about him that's making my eyes go star-crossed....

Thoughts: The Juliet Spell is a book that I'm oddly drawn to. I know it can't end well with the time travel spell going on. How long can that really last? But, it just sounds to adorable to pass up.

Ari can't help feeling lost and alone. With teal eyes and freakish silver hair that can't be changed or destroyed, Ari has always stood out. And after growing up in foster care, she longs for some understanding of where she came from and who she is.
Her search for answers uncovers just one message from her long dead mother: Run. Ari can sense that someone, or something, is getting closer than they should. But it's impossible to protect herself when she doesn't know what she's running from or why she is being pursued.
She knows only one thing: she must return to her birthplace of New 2, the lush rebuilt city of New Orleans. Upon arriving, she discovers that New 2 is very...different. Here, Ari is seemingly normal. But every creature she encounters, no matter how deadly or horrifying, is afraid of her
Ari won't stop until she knows why. But some truths are too haunting, too terrifying, to ever be revealed.

Thoughts: I've very curious to find out what Ari is in Darkness Becomes Her. What if she's the daughter of this big time demon or Hades or something? How cool would that be?

In the middle of the night Garrett is taken from his home to Harmony Lake, a boot camp for troubled teens. Maybe some kids deserve to be sent there, but Garrett knows he doesn't. Subjected to brutal physical and psychological abuse, he tries to fight back, but the battle is futile. He won't be allowed to leave until he's admitted his "mistakes" and conformed to Harmony Lake's standards of behavior. And there's no way to fake it. Beaten, humiliated, and stripped of his pride, Garrett's spirit is slowly ebbing away. Then he hears whispers of an escape plot. It's incredibly risky -- if he's caught, the consequences will be unthinkable -- but it may be his only way out.
In this tense, riveting novel, award-winning young adult author Todd Strasser reveals what really goes on in highly secretive -- and notoriously dangerous -- boot camps, a stealth prison system where any teenager under the age of eighteen can be imprisoned at his parents' whim.

Thoughts: Boot Camp feels like it would be very intense. It sounds like Unwind where parents can force their children to do things that are just criminal.

This novel opens on the first day of Hannah's senior year, but the story really starts on the last day of her junior year. That's when Hannah not only gets dumped by her boyfriend, Ryan, but she also finds out her best friend, Ava, is going to be gone for the entire summer. But Ava's boyfriend, Noah, is definitely around--and such a good guy that he snags Hannah a job at the diner where he works. Hannah and Noah move from coworkers, to friends....and one night, to something more.
Now it's back to school, where Hannah will see Ryan, Ava, and Noah all in one place. Over the course of the day secrets and betrayals are revealed, and alliances are broken and reformed. In the end, Hannah will learn a lot about love, friendship...and herself.
Thoughts: Such a betrayal! I love it! I'm so curious to see how in Sometimes it Happens, Hannah and her friend's boyfriend get together and the aftermath of all that. What if like Hannah and Noah are meant to be though? Would you sacrifice that love for your friend? It's a messed up thing to do but still. What would you decide?

When Olivia Berrington gets the call to tell her that her best friend from university has been killed in a car crash in New York, her life is turned upside down. Her relationship with Sally was an exhilarating roller coaster, until a shocking betrayal drove them apart. But if Sally had really turned her back, why is her little girl named Olivia?
As questions mount about the fatal accident, Olivia is forced to go back and unravel her untangled history. But as Sally's secrets start to spill out, Olivia's left asking herself if the past is best kept buried.

Thoughts: I love that her ex-friend named her daughter Olivia. That's what makes me want to read The Last Time I Saw You. What happened to this friendship and why did her friend name her daughter after her? So many questions!

A love triangle goes horribly wrong in this dark, romantic suspense-thriller from the author of Still Waters.
Megan never meant to hurt her best friend, Anna. She made a mistake, and she's spent all year trying to regain Anna's trust. So when Anna invites her to spend the summer on her uncle's farm, Megan is excited and relieved. The past is finally behind them.
On the farm, Anna quickly falls for Jordan, a rugged summer-hand. Megan and Jordan have their own spark, but Megan's betrayed Anna once before and she's not about to do it again.
Still, the more time that Megan and Jordan spend together, the harder it is to deny their chemistry. But Anna doesn't like to be ignored and she doesn't forgive and forget. What started out as the perfect summer is about to take a very dark turn....

Thoughts: Awwww yeeeeeesssssss! I love everything about the Never Let You Go summary. I really want to read what Megan did and how Anna is going to get revenge. I don't think Megan did anything too big. I think Anna is just crazy and easily offended.

When Naomi Jensen is kidnapped, it takes her parents two days to realize she's missing. Escape isn't high on her list of priorities when all she has to return to is an abusive boyfriend and parents who never paid much attention to her. For the first time in her life she's part of a family-even if it is a family of criminals. But she's still a captive. In a desperate attempt to regain some control in her life, Naomi embarks on a dangerous plan to make one of her kidnappers think she's falling in love with him. The plan works too well, and when faced with the chance to escape, Naomi isn't sure she wants to take it.

Thoughts: I don't know how to feel about this book. It's kind of how I felt when I read Stolen. So many conflicting feelings but I really want to know what happens in The Breakaway.

How many books do you have on your tbr list?

  2. I've stopped making a TBR list... I'm not organized enough to get to any books beyond the books I have with me :p From your list, I've read two; Darkness Becomes Her and Awaken. I'm pretty sure I liked them both (especially Awaken), but it's been a while.

    1. I'm not really into making a tbr list it's just that I accumulate books that I've seen on Goodreads and I have to add them to my to-read list :P

  3. I really have to clean out my TBR pile. It's gotten so bad on Goodreads that I stopped adding books to it (some of the books have been on there for years). And even though I did that, it only ever seems to grow and never seems to get smaller. :( How do you do it?

    1. I still have the first book I added on there which is really ridiculous! I still have a lot of books on there. I just asked myself "Are you really going to read this or not?" and went from there.

    1. The problem with a lot of the older books in my tbr list like Awaken is that it's not in my library and that's my main source of books. I really want to read all these books! I might just have to buy my way through all of them.

  5. Although I haven't read Awaken, I've read some of the author's other works and I loved them!

This is the first time I'm seeing The Juliet Spell and I'm definitely intrigued-So adding it to my TBR list. And I love the sound of The Breakaway! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these reads, Adriana! :)

  7. Love the list. I have so many in my TBR mountain I don't know if I'll ever get through them. I've slowed down adding to the pile because it is so overwhelming. I like the of going through them again to see if there is still a connection :-)

    1. I've been pretty good now that I took a bunch off my list. I'm sure I'll have to purge my list in a couple months again.

  8. I actually don't have that large of a TBR list honestly, because the only books on my TBR are unreleased titles that I really, really, REALLY want. Anything else I just put a hold on at my library. But it's definitely a great idea to clean your TBR up once in a while! Thanks for sharing!

    1. That's really good of you. I just have the worst memory and I would have missed the books above if I didn't have my huge list. But, I'm trying to keep it to books I only really want too.
