Sunday Post: 9/8/2013

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted  @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It's a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things received and share news about what's coming up for the next week ahead.

This Week:

So more work concerning school has come up this week which I expected. I wish it wasn't so soon but school comes first. I do have a bunch of plans this week. I want to get some reviews done before I delve deep in homework. I've read a couple of great books I think you guys might enjoy.

Yesterday was madness. I went on a biking/canoeing adventure with my parents. I haven't been biking in a year and I haven't gone canoeing in even more time. I went biking around my block and park and at the last stretch i was dying only because my dad said to keep going when I really wanted to take a drink from a water fountain. My face gets really red when I'm in the heat and I'm exercising so this was a bad idea and I knew it. Next time I'm not listening to him... We then went canoeing and took about an hour before we got the canoe out in the water because the keys wouldn't work. It was nice when we were out there although my parents talk way too much.

I also found out cats are nocturnal which deeply upsets me. How did I not know this!?

How was your weekend?

Last Week on the Blog:

I reviewed all the children's books I wanted to but not Twigs. I reviewed Shakespeare Bats Cleanup, a verse book; Candy and the Cankersaurus, a dinosaur picture book; and Stumble Trip Fall, a highly recommended children's book.

I finally read Gameboard of the Gods! I can't wait to tell you all about it.

Around the Blogosphere (a.k.a. my to-read list is now larger):

Some books I added to my to-read list that I can't wait to get my hands on: The Paradox of Vertical Flight, Pieces of Me, and Fearsome Dreamer.

Some posts I enjoyed: Picture Book Review: One More Candle (Books for Kids) and Review: How to Hide a Lion by Helen Stephens (Waking Brain Cells).

Voting for the Miami-Dade Libraries will start on the 10th. Some libraries will only be able to be open 16 hours a week!

There are now 5 major publishing houses. What do you think about the Penguin Random House merger? I worry about Penguin becoming too big. They will "publish 15,000 new titles a year, about one-quarter of the world’s English-language books." - I know there can never be a monopoly but I just don't trust it.

Plans for Next Week:

I'm reading two great books right now: One for The Murphys and 13 Little Blue Envelopes. Me and my mom are starting up another Mother/Daughter Book Club Read: Choker. She's been reading a lot of YA and MG books which makes me happy. I've proven her wrong!

I plan on reviewing Gamboard of the Gods, One for the Murphys and possibly Twigs. I would like to be able to review three books no matter what but we will see what happens this week.

  1. You HAVE been busy! It can be hard to balance blogging and school or work. (That's the voice of experience speaking!) I look forward to seeing what you think of Gameboard of the Gods. I had mixed feelings about it, myself. I'm glad you stopped by today so we could be "introduced".

    1. I's nice to meet you too! I have been looking at a lot of reviews of Gameboard of the Gods on Goodreads. It looks like a lot of people are on the fence about it. I wonder what exactly your mixed feelings about it are. I don't understand readers who rate it one star. That seems harsh.

  2. I love the children's books, they're gorgeous. Have a good week, and I hope there's not so much physical exercise involved next week!

    1. Oh it's not so bad to have that physical exercise. It was just a little bit too much for one day. Thanks (:

  4. It sounds like you got much fun on that trip! ;D My weekend was spent a MovieNight yesterday with the two most awesomest people I've met and we ate ramen, pancakes, ice cream, and Burger King and watched White Chicks and Pitch Perfect because my friend hasn't watched them while me and my other friend so we told her she HAD to watch it. XD

OMGosh. Penguin and Random House. I don't know...It seems like the best idea. Because each copy gets selected genre type books and mixing it up kinda somehow I feel no agreement to that. But if they make it official I think I wouldn't hate the idea, know what I mean?

That's so awesome that your mom reads MG/YA! I would totally want to talk to your mom. ;D I hope you will have a lovely week and get lots of rest reading lots of amazing books! ^^

    1. Ooh! Your movie night sounds awesome. That whole collection of food. I can see me and my friends chowing down on that. When friends get together I don't think we care how much we eat. We just eat it all! Both those movies are hilarious XD

I would think there would be less unique books coming out. I don't know why. It feels like those books that are being considered will be based on a certain type that Penguin wants to represent them. If that makes any sense...

You too! Good luck in band and school :D

  6. I wish my mom and I could read the same books, my mom refuses to read, even if she finds the book interesting. She says she doesn't have the focus. I hope you review 13 Little Blue Envelopes, I am very interested in that one!

    1. My mom can be stubborn with books too. It's only now that she's opened up to reading the books I read. Look forward to writing it!
