I decided to sign up for the Once Upon a Read-a-Thon hosted by Candace at Candace’s Book Blog, Angela & Loretta at Reading Angels and Pure Imagination. It starts today and runs up to July 10th at 11:59 p.m. All my updates of what I read will be on this post. I was late in signing up but I'm doing it anyways.
Goals:
My goal is to read at least three books. One per each day. I also want to write each review right after I read a book so I don't have to worry about writing them later on like I did with my last read-a-thon. And of course I want to have fun because that's the whole point of a read-a-thon.
As far as books I want to read. I'm thinking of reading:
But if a book calls to me I will let it.
Updates:

Current Book(s):
Thoughts: Started this book late last night which is why I ended up finishing it at around 1 a.m. the next day. I was inspired to read it again by a fellow Goodreads reader. I originally tried reading it in spanish for a class in elementary and hated it. Now I absolutely love it. Really happy to have gotten the chance to read it.
Mini Challenge:
The mini challenge I will be participating in today is hosted by Cover2Cover. The challenge is to answer these three questions:
1) Which book are you most excited to read in the coming year?
Hmm... I've been pretty lucky about the books I've been able to read but there is this one book I am looking forward to reading - Period 8 by Chris Crutcher. I absolutely loved Crutcher's Deadline and I see Period 8 being that type of provocative read that is a must read for me.
2) Which book would you re-read if you had the time and weren't so busy reading ALL of the other good things?
I want to make time to re-read the Harry Potter series this July. Two years ago just before the sixth movie came out I decided to finally read all the books at one time. I couldn't believe I didn't read them sooner! They were brilliant and without really planning it I did it last summer as well. I hope to keep on the tradition this year.
3) If you could meet any fictional character who would it be and why?
The first person that popped into my head is Danny from Mexican Whiteboy. I guess it's because Danny feels like such a kindred spirit to me. He's the closest that a book character has gotten to feeling like me even if I'm sure I can't throw a baseball as hard and fast as he can. The way he feels about his culture. I would love to have a conversation with him about that.

Current Book(s):
Thoughts: Like I said above I finished this book early in the morning. Loved reading it. Now I must get started with the review and then on to the next book that I think will be Godless by Pete Hautman.

Total number of pages read: 186
Mini Challenge:
This mini challenge is hosted by Better Read Than Dead. The challenge is to answer this survival question:
You're in a bookstore and you've just purchased 5 books you've been dying to read, when the apocalypse hits. You've got one chance at survival, what 2 books do you take and what 3 other items do you take?
It's really hard to pick only two books to read for who knows how long. I'll probably try to find a library and stock up on the way. Just saying. It's easy to say favorite books but I think the right two books would be survival books. Not knowing what kind of apocalypse it would be (most likely zombies) I would get the two books that I've read about survival that might help me out (they are fiction but whatever). I would get My Side of the Mountain and Hatchet. But it's not like I've been dying to read them... so in that case This is Not a Test makes the most sense and... just because The Hallowed Ones which can probably come in handy.
The three other items would have to be a hatchet, a water bottle (hopefully the water is still safe), and a backpack to put it all in (assuming I don't have one already). Also, I'm assuming I can magically find all of these three items.

Thoughts: So I've only read two books so far. I think I might stop here. I really shouldn't have started so late but oh well. I did like Godless. It was pretty crazy. Makes me want to reread the author's book Blank Confession and also You by Charles Benoit.
Total number of books read: 2

Oh I need to re-read HP once again, it's been a while! :) I hope you'll manage to finish both books during this challenge! :) Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanja! :D
DeleteThanks for participating in the Cover2CoverBlog Mini Challenge! Good luck during the read-a-thon! I love Harry Potter so much!
ReplyDeleteDon't we all?
DeleteI'm actually re-reading the Harry Potter series right now! I'm squeezing the books in inbetween my current reads, as I've been dying to re-read the whole series since last year. Good luck with your read-a-thon goals and I hope you have fun! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so awesome Sam. I think I will just go for the marathon-hardly-any-sleep whe it comes to reading HP again. Thanks (:
DeleteYeah for you giving reading challenges a try! It sounds fun and I hope you are enjoying yourself. It sounds like you have been doing well so far.
ReplyDeleteI have reread the HP series many times (well, every time a new book came out I reread every book that was already out and then got the new one). I haven't reread the series yet this summer, but I will! I love it and reading it just brings me to a magical place. Hope you get the chance to reread it this summer!
