Summer Read-A-Thons

WW Read-a-Thon

The Wicked Wildfire Read-A-Thon is a time when we all get together to dedicate the days of June 7-14 to as much reading as possible. You read as much as you can in order to get yourself a little further through that huge to-read pile! We know real life gets in the way and even if you can’t participate more than one day, you’re welcome to join in on the fun!
In the meanwhile, we will be hosting book-related challenges where you can win some awesome prizes and have a Twitter party at the hashtag #WWReadathon! You can posts updates on your blog, Twitter, Goodreads or Facebook — as long as the profile is public and we all can enjoy your reading progress!

Okay, so you may have noticed my lack of updating with my yearly challenges (I'm working on it!) so you may be thinking why on earth I would try this week long challenge. It's because there's this month long reading challenge during the summer at my library. You read as much as you can and you can win a prize. It starts on June 8th so I figure why not? I plan on reading as much as I can anyways so I might as well sign up for this challenge. I do not have a list of books I want to read yet. That will come before the challenge starts.

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year.  And you know what that means...

So no matter where you are on the planet we want you to celebrate the first day of summer with us in a 24 hr read-a-thon!  Just think of all those summer reads you've been waiting to start!

1. Create a sign up post on your site saying that you're planning to join in the read-a-thon on the 21st.  You can post a goal list of books you want to read that day, but it's not mandatory.  Include the read-a-thon button and this blurb:

Summer Solstice Read-a-thon is a 24 hr event taking place on the longest day of the year...June 21, 2013.  It was created by Rie @ Mission To Read and is cohosted by Melissa of Harley Bear Book Blog, Lindsay of The Novel Life, Kathrin of StackedNPainted, and Melina of The Pretty Nifty YA Reader.  The goal of this read-a-thon is to take advantage of all the extra daylight and read as much as you can!  Mini challenges and a giveaway will be happening this day so make sure to check out any of the host's blog's the day of for more information.  Don't forget to chat with us at the twitter party 12pm CST #SSRead.

2. Add the link to your sign up post in the linky.

3. Check back to any of the host's blogs on the 21st for mini challenges and a chance to win a giveaway!

4. Read till the sun goes down

Doesn't this Summer Solstice challenge totally remind you of Avatar the Last Airbender? Anyways I remember reading so much my first 24 hours of the New Year so I decided why not try it again at a different time. It's random but I like that about it. Challenge book list will also come the day before the challenge starts. I wonder how much I can read in 24 hours... I also plan to read mostly outside because it is the longest daylight out after all.

Well it’s that time of year. The sun is out, the kids are running around, your grill is always going, and the fun never truly stops. It’s summer! For us book lovers this equates to reading on the beach, at the park, on the deck, and occasionally, on our vacation cruise. And what better way to enjoy those reads than with a read-a-thon?!
The big brains here at Read-a-thon Central came up with a week long read-a-thon, outfitted with daily author features, daily giveaways, daily challenges, and a final 24 hourGrease Lightnin’ round! What is this fantabulous read-a-thon called you ask?!
Summer Lovin’!
That’s right! We’ve come up with an actual Grease inspired read-a-thon! And  we’ve come up with a lot of prizes, fun challenges, and author features just for your enjoyment!
Prizes include:
4 GRAND PRIZE WINNERS!
2 US winners will receive a box of assorted books featured throughout the read-a-thon
2 INT winners will receive one $35 giftcard to Amazon/Barnes & Noble OR The Book Depository
Didn’t win the Grand Prize? No big deal!
Everyday there will be a challenge and everyday there will be an additional winner!
Didn’t win the daily challenge prize? No problem!
On the final day Summer Lovin’ we’ll host a Twitter Bingo! We’re talking 24+ winners just from BINGO!
And who’s to say we don’t have a few other surprises up our pink sleeves!
So sign up, and  get in on some of this awesome!
As you can see I like to be busy reading during the Summer so this other random read-a-thon- should be fun. I really wish i could make up lists for them now but I can't because I don't know what I'll be reading before then. This read-a-thon helped me find others so you might want to check it out just to see what else is going out there.

I've never done a Bout-of-Books Readathon and it's supposed to be the most popular. The next one goes on the week before class starts (ends on the day before class) which is an excellent start to the new school year especially since I won't be reading as much *sigh* It's a sad fact but that's what all these read-a-thons are for. To get me boosting up my reading.

Do you have any Summer reading plans?

  1. I'm definitely going to do Bout of Books 8.0 and the Summer Lovin' read-a-thon. I did Bout of Books this last time around and had a good time, and got a lot read. Win-win!

I don't know why but the bout of books read-a-thon makes me the most nervous. I guess since there's been so many already and it's so popular...

  6. Most of these start in the middle of my exams so I won't be able to join them. *sigh* I'll stalk you to see your opinions of this. I never took part in any read-a-thon but the next bout of books read-a-thon I'm missing! :) Thanks for sharing :)

Ugh. I'm glad I took off for this Summer but I'm sure the next summers I won't be able to participate because of exams and classes so that's why I am going all out now. Good luck on your exams!
