It's Monday! What Are Your Reading? #13

This book meme is hosted by Book Journey

So many blog tours! It just was crazy last week. Of course I read the book a day before so I have to read a book a day for like four days in a row. March is going to be the month of blog tours for me but I'm doing whatever post I want this week. I'm going to start writing them down on a calendar or something because I don't want to miss something. I already missed a cover reveal which will never happen again.

School almost killed me. I stayed up almost all night one time to finish an essay and I completely ruined myself. Never again! I have learned my lesson. I felt a constant headache for two days and was tired all the time for those days. Never again! School's going to be pretty easy this week so I should have all the great posts I'm planning for. Hopefully your last week was less hectic than mine. I hope you all have a great week!

Past Week Reads/Reviews

   Currently Reading

I read and reviewed Chasing Jupiter, Guardians of the Grimoire, Second Rate Chances, and Love and Other Subjects last week. They all had some flaws but I would have to say out of all of them I enjoyed Second Rate Chances the most. I'll be reading slower this week so I can enjoy my books more. I might read three though since I feel like I'll have time which will be nice.

Currently Reading

"Late on a hot summer night in 1965, Charlie Bucktin, a precocious and bookish boy of thirteen, is startled by an urgent knock on the window of his sleep-out. His visitor is Jasper Jones, an outcast in the regional mining town of Corrigan. Rebellious, mixed-race and solitary, Jasper is a distant figure of danger and intrigue for Charlie. So when Jasper begs for his help, Charlie eagerly steals into the night by his side, terribly afraid but desperate to impress. Jasper takes him to his secret glade in the bush, and it's here that Charlie bears witness to Jasper's horrible discovery. With his secret like a brick in his belly, Charlie is pushed and pulled by a town closing in on itself in fear and suspicion as he locks horns with his tempestuous mother; falls nervously in love and battles to keep a lid on his zealous best friend, Jeffrey Lu. And in vainly attempting to restore the parts that have been shaken loose, Charlie learns to discern the truth from the myth, and why white lies creep like a curse. In the simmering summer where everything changes, Charlie learns why the truth of things is so hard to know, and even harder to hold in his heart."

I've been wanting to read this book all year. It took two months to get here but it's finally here! The cover above may not be the book cover I'm reading from but I don't know. It looks cool and old-style-y. It should be good.

Current Giveaways

Second Rate Chances

Currently there are two giveaways going on. For Fields of Elysium there is a $50 Amazon Gift Card or Paypal Cash plus a gift bag of one signed copy of Fields of Elysium, a scrabble-tile pendant with a butterfly image on a chain necklace, and a fridge magnet for their giveaway. For Second Rate Chances there is a ebook & a signed paperbook copy for their giveaway.

Listening To

This is just because I've seen posts about songs and I wanted to share this with you all. I don't really have anywhere I can put it and than I thought why not here? I love Kimbra. If you don't know her you might want to think of checking out the Somebody I Used to Know video. She has this very funky, bluesy  thing going on. If this video is a little too weird for you than you should try Cameo Lover (I feel like the majority of people will like this one) or Settle Down. The latter one everyone always talks about. I should listen to it again to see why.

Book Discoveries

Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool
Navigating Early
"At the end of World War II, Jack Baker, a landlocked Kansas boy, is suddenly uprooted after his mother’s death and placed in a boy’s boarding school in Maine. There, Jack encounters Early Auden, the strangest of boys, who reads the number pi as a story and collects clippings about the sightings of a great black bear in the nearby mountains.

Newcomer Jack feels lost yet can’t help being drawn to Early, who won’t believe what everyone accepts to be the truth about the Great Appalachian Bear, Timber Rattlesnakes, and the legendary school hero known as The Fish, who never returned from the war. When the boys find themselves unexpectedly alone at school, they embark on a quest on the Appalachian Trail in search of the great black bear.

But what they are searching for is sometimes different from what they find. They will meet truly strange characters, each of whom figures into the pi story Early weaves as they travel, while discovering things they never realized about themselves and others in their lives."

A Song for Bijou by Josh Farrar
A Song for Bijou
"Life for Alex Schrader has never involved girls. He goes to an all-boys prep school and spends most of his time goofing around with his friends. But all that changes the first time he meets Bijou Doucet, a Haitian girl recently relocated to Brooklyn after the earthquake-and he is determined to win her heart. For Bijou, change is the only constant, and she's surprised every day by how different life is in America, especially when a boy asks her out. Alex quickly learns that there are rules when it comes to girls-both in Haitian culture and with his own friends. And Bijou soon learns that she doesn't have to let go of her roots to find joy in her new life.

Told in alternating viewpoints against the vibrant backdrop of Haitian-American culture, Alex and Bijou take their first tender steps toward love in this heartwarming story."

  4. I'm currently (slowly) reading Guardians of the Grimoire. I'm finding the beginning a little hard to get into. (Does it getting easier I wonder?)

A Song for Bijou, sounds like a cute read, and the cover... it just looks so adorable. I'm going to have to add it to my wishlist.

    1. It does get a little easier depending on if you like the type of book it is and where you are at. If you are at the competition and you still think it's hard to get into you may have a problem. Good luck!
I know right!? I remember seeing it before but forgetting about it. Then I found it again and had to showcase it (:

Right now I'm reading Fourth Stall Part III, Hound Dog True, Kiss and Makeup, and A Dog and His Girl Mysteries #1. It sounds like a lot, but I have a book open on every device I own, plus one paperback.

    1. I got lucky when I found it. Apparently the author wrote this other book that got a big award or something so it should be good.
