Challenges: New and Old

I for once did some challenges this year. I'm not going to write about the month long ones that I did pretty well at. I will be doing the year long ones that you heard about once and then nothing after that.

The Dusty Bookshelf

I originally had 24 books on my list to read. The challenge was to read a bunch of books you have on your shelf but have not managed to read yet. How many books did I read? Three. Technically I did complete the Pixie Dust version of that challenge which was to read 0-5 books but since I said I was going to read 24 this one was a major failure. I mentioned on Christmas how I was going to read 2-3 TBR books a month so it's kind of like this except most of the books I have to go out and get them from the library... but I have had those books on my TBR list for about a year or more so I hope to do better with that challenge than I did with this one. I'm thinking since I rather read more of my TBR books and I have more of them I'll do better.

Crusin' thru the Cozies

I was going for ten books. If I read one I still wouldn't have won any of the challenge. I would have had to read six. So... not even close because I read zero. Note to self: Never sign up for a challenge with genres you've never read. There are actually a series of Cozies that I do want to read now because it's not only a mystery but it has recipes in it! A fictional book and a recipe book? What could be better!? So maybe in the future I will actually read a Cozy book.

Speculative Fiction Challenge

I went for In Nirvana which is to read 24 books and I did it! It's was really easy to do to because it's basically you read sci-fi books like dystopians. You could read angel and demon monster books. It was good that it was easy to beat but that doesn't make it really a challenge honestly. But I still count it because it makes me feel better about my two other challenge failures. I actually finished it like when less than half the year past. I don't know i I will be doing anymore challenges like this one. I was able to complete some monthly challenges on Goodreads. A lot actually. I want to be able to stick with my challenge for myself or any other challenges I come across.

Goodreads 2012 Reading Challenge

I started off really strong but I don't know what happened in the last months but my reading decreased. I've beat my challenge of reading 175 books (not including re-reads) but I want 2013 to be a year that I enjoy reading all the time and I am with a book all the time even if I don't read as fast or as much. But still, I have never read this many books in a year. Ever! Pretty proud of myself.

I've signed up for some new challenges that I'm really excited for. Goodreads hasn't posted up it's 2013 but that makes sense because it isn't 2013 yet! My goal for that by the way is 126 books. I'm not changing it either. If I pass it early, I pass it. If I'm close to the end of the year and I'm not going to make it then it's not going to happen. I'm in it for the long haul. Here are some more of my 2013 challenges I signed up for:

2013 Sequel Challenge

Hosted by: Auntie Spinelli Reads
Main Guidelines:
1) Any book after the first book in a series counts. Books in the same series also count.
2) Novellas also count, as long as it is after book #1. (ex: #1.5, #2.5, etc)
3) At the end of each month I will post a linky for you to add your sequel reviews to.
4) Possible giveaways throughout the year
5) There will be a giveaway at the end of the year for all participants who completed the challenge.

You can pick however amount of books you want to do so I'm choosing to read 5 books in this challenge.

There's also an audio version.

The Foodies Read 2013

Hosted by: Foodies Read
Main Guidelines:
Decide how many food books you want to read in 2013. Pick one of the reading levels below.

Levels:
Short-Order Cook: 1 to 3 books
Pastry Chef: 4 to 8 books
Sous-Chef: 9 to 13 books
Chef de Cuisine: 14 to 18
Cordon-Bleu Chef: More than 19
*I'm thinking she meant 19 and more

After you read each book for the challenge, go back to the website to tell everyone about it. Click on the correct category for your book (on the menu bar) and post the link to your review. Categories: Cookbooks, Memoirs/Biographies, Fiction, and Nonfiction. Also a Challenge Wrap-Up post. I'm planning on being a Pastry Chef. I'm not going to say how many books I'm going to do though. As long as I make it to four I'm happy.

New Authors  Challenge 2013

Hosted by: Literary Escapism
Goal is to read either 15, 25, or 50 new authors. Don't stop if you've finished your goal. Any new author you try can be added to Mr. Linky.

Bring your review back to the website to add you link to Mr. Linky. Include name of author. Title name optional.

I will be reading 50 new author books. I'll probably pass it though. I did pretty well this year.

2013 Ebook Challenge

Hosted by: Workaday Reads
Floppy disk - 5 ebooks
CD - 10 ebooks
DVD - 25 ebooks
Memory Stick - 50 ebooks
Hard Drive - 75 ebooks
Server - 100 ebooks
Human brain - 150 ebooks

I'm going for 10 books - a CD.

Book to Movie Challenge

Hosted by: Doing Dewey
There are a lot of new movies coming out based upon young adult or literature in general that I really want to see. So I want to read the books as well.
I'm going to be a Movie fan, reading three books and watching their movies.

Indie-Fever Challenge

Hosted by: b00k r3vi3ws
This past year I've started reading indie books so I think this challenge really suits my slowly growing love of indie reads. I must come back to the blog to link up reviews.
I'm going to be a Lover and read at least 9 books but I can read up to 16 for the Lover portion.

2013 TBR Pile

Hosted by: Bookish
This challenge is for books that have been sitting on your shelf for some time. As long as it isn't a 2013 book you're pretty much golden. I am working on my Top 100ish books that I have in my TBR list for Goodreads but I think this will work too. I'll be reading and reviewing the books that are only on my list that are on my shelves of course. I realize this is like the Dusty Challenge but I'm only aiming for A Firm Handshake: 1-10 books so I should be fine. I have to check back on the 20th of each month for a wrap-up that might have giveaways, mini challenges, etc. I also must remember to link up reviews for entry in giveaways.

You can find a lot more challenges here: A Novel Challenge

  3. You've done some great challenges! Seeing as I only started blogging in August/October, I didn't do the Goodreads one -- but 175? Wow. This year I'm doing this dystopia challenge, but I'm considering doing the 2013 tbr pile as well...
